When you have been traveling for two weeks and don’t have a feeling for how the weather has been acting at home it is a bad idea to leave your car window down with a one inch gap to keep it from getting too hot. The thunderstorm blew through and I didn’t even think about the window. And yes, the window that was open was on the upwind side of the car. The cup holders in the center console had standing water in them. :(

If you like sci-fi I have a movie you must watch. It’s not a SFX film that follows Star Wars, Star Trek, or any other of the more mainstream sci-fi flicks. This movie hurts your brain. You need to watch it. Once you watch it you will watch it again.

It is best served to a brain that has not seen or heard anything about the movie. Don’t even read the blurb on the back of the DVD. Watch it fresh. After you have watched it the first three times, then you can google for it as much as anyone.

Go to Best Buy or Fry’s or wherever you get your DVD’s and buy "Primer". You will find it in the sci-fi section. It is an indie and was shot for only about $7000 so do not expect any SFX or glossy finish on the film. You can expect one hell of a mind bending ride.

We seem to have fixed the server problems with some different hardware. So now we need to diagnose the old busted hardware and fix it.

I do plan on catching up on posts. I have quite a few in my head that I just need to sit down and put to bits and bytes.

While getting ready to post this I noticed that as of a couple of days ago, herdingchaos.net is one year old.

I spent most of the day today doing spring cleaning. Living in Texas, spring starts about right now. We relocated the office to give the kids a larger playroom about a year ago. During the move I never really put everything away. Over the course of the past year I have junking up this one room. Today I took most everything out of it and started over. Not only can you walk in the room now, you can see the floor! woohoo or something.

The new blog software appears to be working quite well. I was able to turn back on the comments for all of my posts. Within 2 hours I had around 50 comment spams that had been posted. Wordpress does such a better job with this. There are bulk interfaces for cleaning entries up. And Wordpress detected the spam after a few of them started looking the same, and moved them to a moderation queue. That made it quite easy to dump them before they were even posted. There is supposed to be plugins for spell checking and image posting and other nifty features. I do not have any of those working yet. But I will get them running as I have time.

It has been a few months since I have posted. Since that time we have been blessed with a new baby girl. Her name is Loren and she has been the best baby. I am not sure if we are just getting to be better parents at this point, or if the babies just get more laid back if they have a few older siblings. Loren has been sleeping most of the night since day one. Andrew and Tracy are both really enjoying playing with their little sister. Sometimes too much…

I just got back from traveling for a week. I was away for work and then for a memorial service. It was tough being away from the family for such a long time right after Loren had arrived. I’m glad to be back and I am really looking forward to this weekend.

I am going to try and keep up now that this blog software has pretty much taken care of the comment spam problem. I also would not expect the layout to remain the same. Expect more changes and more posts in the near future.

I bought a new hard drive. Mostly because it was 200G for $60. The very next day the hard drive on my linux box started puking up those drive seek errors that are a good sign you are about to loose a drive. Not really surprising. That drive was a 12G drive circa 90something.

It would appear that I have powers to see into the future and did a good job predicting this failure and had a drive now available.

Here is the rub. I do all my video editing on my windows box. And the 280G on that box was getting full. I had 16G left. The plan was to use the drive utils that came with the 200G drive and copy the partition from the 80G drive to the 200G drive. Then move my 80G drive to the linux box. And BAM I have 400G on the video editing box.

This plan worked exactly like all my plans that involve Microsoft software. It didn’t.

Read on for the details.

I am a crappy poker player. A few friends got together tonight and we ended up playing hold-em with 9 players. $5 to buy in and I was the second one out. But it doesn’t really matter, I heard a voice from the lotto machine when I was getting beer on the way over to the game and I bought a ticket. I expect I will be about $1 poorer here in a few hours. UPDATE: Yep, not a single number.
